Today is election day in Maine. When you vote – as I urge you to do – choose the candidate who understands the importance of fighting to create an equitable, outstanding education system for all Mainers. Our economy and the health of our state depend on a universally well-educated electorate.
We should not continue to be a state where certain districts boast rich arts, STEM, and world language programs – offering students a chance to fully develop as individuals and citizens – while others cannot afford to do so.
We need to prioritize funding for optimal staffing levels, materials, and programs in all schools, not just those with high property values. We need to insist that this year the legislature fund schools at the 55% level they committed to years ago.
Please find out who the candidate is in your district who will fight for an equitable education for all and then go out to vote for him or her. Urge your neighbors and contacts to do the same. To my friends in the Maine House District 94 area who believe strengthening education is the key to our health as a region and nation … please go to the polls today and vote for Betsy Saltonstall! She’s the candidate who will do more than just talk about creating an equitable, outstanding education system for all – she will fight for one.
